Capoeira Moves – Version Two

Movimentos basicos e defesa (basic moves and defense)
Ginga

Bananeira (banana tree)

Negativa – Negativa can be ‘de fuga’ (escape) or ‘de entrada’ (moving towards openent, for attack)
Esquiva – Esquiva also has many variations, ‘lateral’ and ‘de frente’ are the ones I learned.
Rolê

Ataque/chutes (attack/kicks)
Armada
Benção (Blessing)
Chapa – not sure which translation to use… perhaps grill is the most appropriate…

(this has variations, but in common it uses the flat bottom of the foot and you pivot like a martelo, while pushing foot out in a benção motion)

Chapa Giratória (Rotating Chapa)
Chapéu de Couro (Leather Hat) . Another example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HtjingW1ns
Martelo (Hammer)
Martelo de Chão (Floor Hammer)
Martelo Rodado (Spinning Hammer) aka Armada com Martelo.  Another example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pD0gOt9fDyU
Meia-lua de Frente (Half moon from front)  or Passa pé (passpied, ‘pass the feet’). Another example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHsQGUcoYjY
Meia-Lua de compasso (compass half moon)
Meia-Lua presa – like meia-lua de compasso, but with one hand.  This can be confusing, and can be interchangeable.
Passa pé – this is a ‘question’ move, a good one for seeing how oponent responds and to get the game started.  It translates as ‘foot pass’.
Queixada (queixe means chin, so it translates as ‘kick to the chin’)
Rabo de Arraia (ray’s tail), one of my favourites

Acrobatic/Advanced
Ponte (Bridge)
Queda de rim (fall on kidney)
Macaco (Monkey)
Vingativa (vengeful, seeking revenge)
